National Under 16 soccer champions Wiyeta Girls and St. Anthony registered mixed results on the opening day Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) games that started today in Eldoret.
Wiyeta, the reigning national champions managed a slim win against their neighbours Tartar girls in pool B match played at Wareng High school ground.
Esther Wafula scored the only goal on 3rd minute for her Trans Nzoia based Wiyeta to beat West Pokot’s Tartar girls in pool B.
St. Anthony’s Kitale played a 1-1 draw against Menengai in boys soccer match played at the same venue. The national champions opened the score through on 4th minute through Christopher Raila before Kevin Safari leveled the score on 16th minute.
Menengai were forced to fifnish the match with ten players after Brian Muramba was red carded on 47th minute.
But the drew did not please St. Anthony head coach Moses Kebengwa who said the Menengai side had fielded ineligible players since they were not presented with documents.
“We were the unfortunate side in these games. We played with older boys compared to what we have. We were forced to substitute our very young boys whom we want to nurture but they were intimidated in the games,’ lamented Kebengwa.
In other soccer results Uasin Gishu Mwiruti Boys’ won against Elgeyo Marakwet based Simotwo 2-1. Sammy Moiya scored a brace for his Mwiruti in 17th and 51st minute before Dennis Kipkoech netted for Simotwo on 60th minute in pool D match played at Wareng high school field B.
In Pool A, Beusang from Kajiado started the campaign beating Boito of Bomet 2-0 while Bartolimo from Baringo narrowly won 3-2 against Ortum from West Pokot in Pool C.
Esther Wafula scored a solitary goal for reigning national girls’ champions Wiyeta Girls against former national champions Tartar girls in pool B match. wafula’s goal on 3rd minute sealed the victory for Trans Nzoia’s girls against West Pokot team at Wareng’s field A.
In pool B Nandi’s Sochoi girls shone against Laikipia’s Gatero Girls with a goal from Francisca Atieno on 7th minute.
Senior Chief Riisa of Kajiado played to a barren drew with Anin from Elegyo Marakwet in Pool A while the hosts Ngeria from Uasin Gishu beat Boito 2-0 in Pool C.
Cheptil and Kipkenyo netball team which have been qualifying for the national games had a good start in their respective matches.
Cheptil humiliated Kalokol 57-4 in their opening match while Kaptagat ran over St. Sicilia 38-17.Uasin Gishu’s Kipkenyo defeated Gatero 21-5 while Beusang narrowly beat Marinying 22-21.
Former handball Boys national champions Kitany had to fight hard to overcome stiff challenge from Ziwani winning 18-15 in Pool B.
In Pool A handball Girls, former national champions St. Francis Cheptarit thrashed St. Kevins 34-4 while in Pool B St. Joseph’s Nyasi scored 13-2 against Olioborsoit.
