Maseno was the favourite at the Kenya Secondary schools Sports Association going on in Mombasa but that did not live up the expectations of many.
In absence of national champions Laiser Hill Academy and East Africa champions St. Peters Mumias in the rugby seven aside, former champions Maseno stepped up for the challenge but it was unfortunate that they failed along the way that shocked many as they were casualties after they lost two of their opening matches.
Playing in pool B, the Nyanza side Maseno went down to St. Joseph’s Rapongi in their opening match 14-05 before succumbing to Galana school 12-10 to bow out of the games.
New comers proved their worthy by beating Maseno which is the only school at the games that has ever won the title but dropped to bowl after dropping out of main cup quarter finals.
Western representatives Bungoma topped pool D and will face off with new comers Katuanya as first runner up Rapogi face off with Muhuri Muchiri.
Chavakali will take on Nairobi school before Menengai tackle Kaya Tiwi.
